Dear Supporters,

I was introduced to Jennifer Hackett, Ph.D. in molecular biology, who runs the flickersense.org website.  She has already done a lot of activist work on her own, and will now be collaborating with us.  She explained to me that she was unable to find any US federal agency who would take her report of LED radiation poisoning because there were no federal regulations for LEDs, and because there were no regulations, there was no place for these people to record reports of harm.  It was a perfect government catch-22 system and would explain why no US government agency was aware of LED harm.  However, Dr. Hackett figured out that we can report LED visible radiation exposure events using this form: https://www.fda.gov/media/79866/download and emailing to this address: RadHealthCustomerService@fda.hhs.gov

Why is this important for LED headlights?  The reason is that LED headlights emit directed energy visible radiation which is supposed to be regulated by the FDA.  Blue wavelength light from LED headlights is photochemically toxic, and the directed beam of this radiation can injure the eye and cause neurological trauma.  Therefore, if you are involved in an LED headlight incident, you may submit it as a radiation event to the FDA using the above form.

All the federal agencies have failed to regulate LEDs, including NHTSA, and the only federal agency directed by Congress to regulate LED visible radiation is the FDA.  In other words, we're all waiting for the FDA.  If you wish to comment on our FDA petition, you may do so here: https://www.regulations.gov/document/FDA-2022-P-1151-0001

Sincerely,
Mark Baker
