Dear Supporter,
NHTSA has published the final rule to approve Automated Driving Beams. This approval does nothing to regulate peak luminance, blue wavelength light, or flicker from LED headlights. Since NHTSA has never approved flat surface LED emitters for use as headlights, the ADB systems would be supplemental to an already illegal lighting system. We will continue to be blinded by LED headlights.
In the final rule document, NHTSA references the 5,000+ complaints they received about glare from halogen headlights, but NHTSA said nothing about our 30,000+ supporters who signed this petition!
I sent the Soft Lights Foundation official response to the ADB final rule to NHTSA today. Soft Lights Foundation Response
This is a critical inflection point for our cause. It is very important that you write to NHTSA and tell them that ADB headlights will not solve the intensity or blue wavelength problems of LED headlights and that ADB must not be authorized until NHTSA has studied the effects of LED light beams on our eyes and mental health, and has set regulations for peak luminance and blue wavelength light.
