DON'T STAND DON'T PLAY: Remove Megan Rapinoe from the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team

The Issue

According to the U.S. Soccer Federation, “Representing your country is a privilege and honor for any player or coach that is associated with U.S. Soccer’s National Teams.  Therefore, our national anthem has particular significance for U.S. Soccer. In front of national and often global audiences, the playing of our national anthem is an opportunity for our Men’s and Women’s National Team players and coaches to reflect upon the liberties and freedom we all appreciate in this country.  As part of the privilege to represent your country, we have an expectation that our players and coaches will stand and honor our flag while the National Anthem is played.”

Megan Rapinoe chooses to kneel in protest during The Star-Spangled Banner, the national anthem of the United States of America.  However, in complete hypocrisy to her protest position, Megan, a midfielder soccer player, chooses to wear the uniform of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team, getting paid by the U.S. Soccer Federation to play for the national team while representing the USA around the world.  Let us hold Megan accountable to her protest convictions by having her removed from the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team so that she can kneel in protest as an individual rather than a USA representative athlete.
