When did fear and cruelty and genocide become legally acceptable? When did killing innocent animals become a way of life? When did enabling irresponsibility and selfishness become a socially accepted everyday thing? 



It is becoming increasingly evident that owning a pet - or being any animal's person - should not be a right, but rather a privilege. Too many are proving to be undeserving animal caretakers. And what is the Law doing? Nothing. 

This is a massacre. Do not call it anything else.

Every year thousands of dogs of all breeds lose their lives in animal shelters, streets, fields and human cruelty cases across the world. In the United States only, over 70% of dogs and cats that enter kill shelters are euthanized regardless of age, breed and physical condition. At the top of the list are all variations and pure-bred and mixes of Pit Bull Terriers and all variations and pure-bred and mixes of Chihuahuas. 

What is most lacking in the world is EMPATHY. Animals are not a commodity. Animals are not toys. Animals are not laboratory instruments. Animals are not garbage. Animals ARE sensitive, intelligent beings who not only deserve respect, but who also need protection and care. 

Do not shop while so many are available; ADOPT.  And Spay or Neuter your dogs and cats, so that the apparent overpopulation of strays and/or unwanted animals can get under control, and all lives can be saved.

If you can't adopt, foster. If you can't foster, donate. If you can't donate, advocate. 

As far as Dog Fighting is concerned, the legal ramifications and punishments should become much more severe. The infamous case of football player Michael Vick is just a small example of the impunity with which these animal abusers are allowed to behave, simply because they know the punishment will not fit the crime. The brutality these dogs are treated with, the painful deaths, the emotional and physical scars those who survive are left with for life...and the many lives lost each year to dog fighting should be reason enough to make this a severe criminal offense not only against these dogs, but against Humankind. Pit Bull Terriers have served the Military and Law Enforcement for generations, and to have placed them in a category of "monsters" should be considered morally, legally and ethically wrong. 

Please, do something. Protect the defenseless. Be on the right side of this wrong.

- Implement mandatory spay-neuter laws/regulations in every state, until overpopulation of dogs and cats is finally under control.

- Ban irresponsible breeders and back yard breeders from making a living selling puppies that are not spayed or neutered. Enforce legal actions taken against any breeder that does not follow the Law. Prosecute any violations with severe fines and/or jail time.

- Puppy Mills need to be shut down immediately: Create the Puppy Mills Act and implement it nationwide. It is not only a severely inhumane way of breeding animals, but also promotes overpopulation. In-breeding of Puppy Mills dogs, causes birth defects and health issues in short and long term.

- Enforce criminal prosecution and punishments for Dog Fighting. The Law is not strong enough. The punishment does not fit the crime right now. Give these dogs the protection they deserve and need. A life, any life, should be always protected by the Law.
