U.S. and German Officials: Affirm Human Rights and Freedom of Religion in Germany
The Issue
Freedom of Religion is a fundamental human right. People have a natural right to be free to observe their religion. This is an inalienable right to every person and is recognized under the U.N. Declaration of Human Rights. The U.S. Department of State, the Embassy of Germany to the U.S. and Members of the German Parliament must advocate for and protect these basic human rights.
On June 24, 2012: A German court declared that Brit Milah (religious circumcision) is against German law.
July 1, 2012: The Jewish Hospital in Berlin suspended all religious circumcisions based on the ruling.
This Cologne Court ruling in Germany now makes it illegal for circumcisions to be performed by 4 Million Muslims and 120,000 Jews and others in Germany and takes the country back to the intolerance for minorities that it became infamous for during the Nazi Regime.
Male circumcision is a fundamental tenent of Judaism and Islam as well as other religions. It is a medically beneficial procedure that promotes health and wellbeing. Boys that are circumcised are more protected against HIV/AIDS, as well as certain cancers and other harmful diseases. It is much less invasive and painless when it is administered to babies rather than adults, and removes a non-vital skin has no real use and can habor bacteria and other diseases. Doctors for both medical, secular and religious reasons have administered circumcisions for centuries and likelihood of harm is extremely low.
Do not allow Germany to return to its dark past. Ensure Human Rights and Freedom of Religion and sign this petition to demonstrate to the German Parliament that the citizens of world demand human rights and freedom of religion to be upheld in Germany.
Petition Language:
We, the undersigned declare that Germany has absolutely no right, moral or ethical right to pass any laws or make any statements that abridges the fundamental human rights of German citizens to engage in freedom of religion. We support the members of the German parliament that want to propose legislation to ensure the human right to freedom of religion in Germany. We urge all members of parliament and the German goverment to do the same.
Germany, permanently stained with the blood of 6 million Jews and many other minority groups during the Nazi Regime, has not learned the lessons of history, and the German court's recent ban on circumcision is an affort on human rights and an act of overt and explicit xenophobia, anti-Semitism and religious intolerance toward Muslims and Jews and others that practice circumcision as a fundamental tenant of their faith.
To allow it to stand, is a mark of shame on the German people.
Never Again!
