The UK has to play our part in ending the global migration movement. Sending desperate families back to France is like saying we don’t wanna do our bit. It is unrealistic to imagine that France can take every asylum seeker. The geography of the UK means that it will never be the first country to claim asylum in Europe.

Ultimately we need to find a way to provide safe and legal routes to claiming asylum in the UK. We could open a camp in France and assess cases from there which will cost less money and far fewer lives. This camp could grant visas for genuine asylum seekers. In that way people will come to the UK with legal documents using safe legal routes. It's an obvious solution which will end countless tragedies.
