Everyday, companies like the Highland Food Group sell venison products in our local stores, flaunting their ability to kill such a magnificent creature.

There is no justifiable reason to kill deer. Population control is not needed as they are not invasive. Plants can be sprayed with deer repellent which is not harmful. Deer are not livestock. Regardless of whether you’re a meat-eater, a vegetarian or a vegan, we have to put a stop to the disgustingly way these animals are killed.

Sometimes, they aren’t even killed for their meat. Sometimes they are killed as trophies. Hunting is not a ‘manly sport’. It’s an activity for people who think that they are super cool because they like pointing high calibre rifles at defenceless animals, and keeping taxidermy deer on their walls as a disgusting trophy.

We need to take action. They do not have a voice. We do. It’s time we step up and take responsibility. We should live together with these magnificent creatures and learn from their peaceful existence. We should not use them as target practice.
