Everyday poultry workers in the Northwest Arkansas tell us about the horrors inside the plants: line speeds so fast they work through pain and incur carpal tunnel syndrome and life-long injuries; wages so low they turn to food banks and work while sick (no earned sick time); and workers afraid to speak out – even to request a bathroom break, to the point they end up urinating on themselves. Tyson is the world’s largest chicken producer and could shift the industry toward treating workers better by reducing line speeds, allowing workers more breaks, and implementing other policies that put workers’ health and safety first.
