The largest goat tying only event in the United States is called the Ty Tuff Challenge, which is held annually. In 2020 it is scheduled for Huron, South Dakota on July 17th and Bowman, North Dakota on August 8th. Participants will be tormenting and traumatizing young and fragile goats for cash prizes and bragging rights.
Very young goats are used for this rodeo event, goats who are less than a year old and less than sixty pounds. In this "sport" goats can be picked up and slammed down to the ground from up to five contestants in a row. Being tied to a 10-foot rope tethered to a metal stake buried in the ground, the goats have no chance to escape the torment they receive from children and adults. Once on the ground, the human participant will violently tie up at least three of the goat's legs together and leave the vulnerable goat tied up and crying. The goats must remain tied for six seconds in order for the contestant to qualify for a time. Contestants participate for two rounds at the Ty Tuff Challenge.
Goats can get injured not only from the rough human handlers, but also from occasionally getting trampled by the horse the contestant rides into the arena. Most of the goats (ab)used in the goat tying world end up getting sold and sent to slaughter, never knowing a life where they get to live for their own reasons and their own preferences. Many goat tying participants breed goats on their farm so they have a constant supply of baby goats to keep practicing on.
Not only does Ty Tuff Goat Tying put on these events, but they also teach clinics where humans can learn "skills" for this form of abuse.
Other animals are not here to serve humans. They aren't here to be our sustenance, our entertainment, our clothing, our experiments, our sexual pleasure, or anything else. We are supposed to be sharing this planet with other animals and letting other animals live their lives. Nobody exists to be dominated and subjugated and the people in this event and in the rodeo world at large think they can rule over and dominate other beings and treat them however they want. We need to let humans know this is a mentally ill worldview and will not be tolerated.
