Justice for the Platypus

The Issue

Beanie Babies became a household name in the 90’s, and are still popular amongst families today. They are arguably one of the most popular toy brands, and are sold in nearly every store.

A few weeks ago I saw that TY has a platypus stuffed animal, his name is Perry. Perry has all the features of a regular platypus, except one, a pretty crucial one. Perry lacks a tail. We all know that Platypuses have a duck’s bill, webbed feet, and a “beaver’s” tail. But Perry, and his female counterpart, Wilma, do not.

It may seem insignificant, but the lack of thought that went into the design bothers me. Children often play with Beanie babies, and can learn from them. By making the Platypus inaccurate, you’re misleading the youth. My niece was fully convinced platypuses don’t have tails, because Perry does not have a tail. I had to show her numerous photos of real platypuses to get her to believe me. When I showed her Wilma, we checked her heart-shaped hang tag and read the poem inside. It said “Broad and flat my TAIL can be, I’m like a duck, can’t you see?” Well, no Wilma. I can’t see. Because you were manufactured without a tail. But why?

I have sent emails to the beanie baby customer service, but have been given no answers or explanation and have not been forwarded to any appropriate contacts. All I want is for the platypuses to be given tails. They deserve that, and we deserve answers.

Help sign this petition so we can get feed back either from Ty Warner himself, or atleast someone who can fix our problem at Ty, Inc. Help give these platypuses tails!
