Update: the MP has now called the UN's child death toll "a lie"

In a video exchange in Ottawa this week with Canadian journalist and activist Yves Engler, Roman Baber was asked about the more than 20,000 Palestinian children killed in Gaza. His response: "That's a lie."

The figure is not a lie. It comes from the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry, which documented 20,179 Palestinian children killed and 44,143 injured between October 2023 and March 2026. Mr. Baber is Vice-Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights.

We think this answers a question his August 27 letter never did. He asked the Canada Lands Company to stop a children's charity walk at Downsview Park, calling it "highly inflammatory," but never said what was inflammatory about it. A man who believes the deaths of those children are fabricated has little reason to want money raised for the ones still alive.

Our access to information request to Downsview Park is still outstanding. The demands in this petition stand.
