Stop Twitter Copyright Suspensions

Stop Twitter Copyright Suspensions

The Issue

Hold Twitter Platforms Accountable to Provide The Services They Claim to offer,

Twitter and how they provide their service has been the focus of many longtime content creators, and the communities it supports at a large. Some of these apparent attacks like Twitter's more recent suspending of accounts to supposed "DMCA" violations are a clear call not to illegal behavior by its users, but by weak interpretation and enforcement of company policies by these larger companies.

Tumblr has received backlash for its new rules on what content is allowed on their platform, Youtube has began banning accounts of Minors for supposed inappropriate content, shifting responsibility for monitoring comment sections by suspending accounts all together of users that are targeted by predators and are considered "Minors." Twitter is suspending accounts of music fans who are sharing video content of them enjoying a song from their favorite artists. This course of action is a clear misinterpretation of copyright law, and a poor and ambiguous management of its terms of service. The enforcement of which, hurts both the average social media user, as well as creative artists such as our idol Taylor Swift & TaylorNation wanting to engage with us directly with their content.

By signing this petition, you are telling Twitter & other social platforms that we have had enough. They have made billions on us the consumer, and they do not have the right to punish us for their poor enforcement and constant changing of their rules, while they pocket extravagant sums of money for themselves. You are telling Youtube to monitor bullying, harassment and illegal activity in the comment section, and to address that directly with the offenders, not the victims. You are telling TWITTER to stop suspending accounts without cast, and holding them to the standards set out by law, not their own. Interpretation of it to sustain a open and free exchange of communication we've paid them for through our time and loyalty to their platform. And finally, you are sending a message to all social platforms that we demand consistency, integrity, and transparency in how they handle our social presence.

Twitter, please come up with a new policy so all of us fan accounts have a safe space & a place where we can share our experiences together without getting harassed and or getting our accounts suspended. Please recover those fan accounts who you guys had suspended including mine, Lala, Brie, Hilary, Anna&Mitch, and many others. Thanks

Thank you,

Hunter, Rhett, & Lala.
