Block Nayib Bukele's Twitter Account

The Issue

Nayib Bukele, President of El Salvador, has been using the twitter platform to order actions that violate human rights. This is according to the International Human rights organizations (Human Rights Watch and UN Human Rights).

He is unwilling to adhere to El Salvador's supreme court ruling which also objects the orders he gives via twitter.

In his recent tweet April 23rd, he interfered with the senate’s voting, who was vetoing some of his irrational behavior. He tweeted there was a suspicion of COVID19 in the senate floor and he recommended they suspended the meeting. The meeting ended due to this situation.

On Feb. 9th, he already ordered the military to enter the senate floor fully armed, and then accepted it was a form of "pressure" for senators to approve his budget.

Moreover, he has blocked from his account anyone who would challenge his views. If he uses his account for governing and sending official messages to the El Salvador population, this should be unconstitutional or illegal. As is the case in the United States. There is already a process in place to fight this in court.

In sum, he used twitter (and COVID19) as a means to excerpt power in an, unconstitutional and human rights violating matter. Twitter should not be a means of giving orders or should have a legal basis for doing so. We beg of twitter to consider blocking this account, as they have done with other authoritarian like regimes in the region.

Please join me in attempting to make Mr. Bukele go through the proper routes for sending orders.

Thank you
