Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5- Make it happen

Il problema

Hello,

My name is Mattias Cetra and I'm here to fullfill a dream. This dream's not only my own, it's more of a collective kind of dream, one that people have been wishing to fullfil for many years. But first, a little history.

We're all familiar with the Alien franchise. The first one, directed by Ridley Scott changed the face of cinema, with its perfect blending of the sci-fi and horror genres and revolutionary style. It was a massive hit, which spawned a sequel, by many considered to be one of the greatest sequels of all time: Aliens, directed by James Cameron. This sequel brought us a thrilling storyline filled with memorable and lovable characters, great action scenes, some of the best special effects in cinema history. An overall masterpiece of a sequel and a perfect closure to an epic sci-fi duology. Then came Alien 3.

While overall not a terrible movie (it's got a lot of memorable imagery and it's a great visual movie), Alien 3 was kind of doomed from the start. Its production was constantly riddled with budget issues, time restraints, constant rewrites of the scrips and the cluelessness of a young and still inexperienced David Fincher. The result was not a disaster, in fact it's a pretty interesting movie to look at and it's got some notable visual accomplishments, but it still pales in comparison with its predecessors. The movie's biggest fault for me at least was the killing of virtually every single one of its main characters. After Alien 3 the franchise started its descend in an endless downward slope, with its sequel Alien Resurrection and the two prequels by Ridley Scott, Prometheus and Alien Covenant. All these movies weren't bad, but there never was a truly great third installment to the franchise and suffered the sequel curse.

But then there was hope. In 2015 director Neill Blomkamp (best know for his critically acclaimed sci-fi drama District 9) announced that he was working on a possible "Alien 5" project. This movie would have given the franchise sort of a Halloween: 20 Years Later treatment, by picking up after Aliens and ignoring all the movies that came in between. Fans were very enthusiastic about this project and Blomkamp himself was very eager to start pre-production (and recently even James Cameron himself showed enthusiasm for the never-started project)........but the movie never happened. 20th Century Fox cancelled it despite the audience's interest and Blomkamp's enthusiasm. In 2018 Blomkamp himself declared the actual "death" of the project. It's not gonna happen.

Yeah, right. This is the movie industry, people! Nothing is ever finished or cancelled. Anything can be brought back by popular demand and the reassurance of a lucrative benefit.

And that's why I'm here. I, just like, I'm willing to bet, many other people, really want to see a fitting closure the the epic sci-fi horror series that is Alien. A movie that would pick up after the best of the series, a movie that would finally give us the third great chapter of what we'll one day call the ALIEN TRILOGY. Now it's our turn. In order to make that happen we've got to show these producers that we want to see this. If we can have Terminator 6, Rambo 5, Blade Runner 2, the Ghostbusters Remake, the Predator, Star Wars 9, Jigsaw and all the other sequels to already existing franchises, we can finally fulfill this dream, this 30 year old dream of a closure to the Alien series.

Only question is.......are you in?
