Expand your business and provide your services in Puerto Rico

The Issue

As of today there are no companies in Puerto Rico offering their cable tv, data and dedicated Internet access services throughout the whole island. As a result, there is no competition for such services in the Puertorrican market. This fact prevents the consumer to have a choice of choosing better companies offering better services and prices. It's common knowledge that Puerto Rico Telephone Company was acquired by Claro making it the first and only island-wide Cable TV provider for all customers, conveniently owning all telephone lines... OneLink provides Cable TV and data services but doesn't cover all the island and Liberty covers the other half... This forces customers to choose, well, the only one available! The telecommunications industry has in the past been considered to be a natural monopoly. Like railways and water provision, the existence of several companies supplying the same area would result in an inefficient multiplication of cables, transformers, pipelines etc. However the perception of what constitutes a natural monopoly is now changing - in part because of the impact of new technology in reducing traditional barriers to entry within markets. Simply put, we need cheaper and better data services in Puerto Rico. We need Time Warner Cable in Puerto Rico. We need more than 512k Upload and 5MB Download! There is something called "Junta de Telecomunicaciones de PR" which is a body that "regulates" this stuff in PR. They are the ones who actually divided the island between Onelink, Liberty and Choice Cable (Choice is the cable provider in the south), hence creating a shithole we are in right now. It was this same body (with the help of the cable companies I might add) who denied the work permits for some companies that wanted to provide "open access" services. With an "open access" provider they will give you the transport (the fiber) and you choose whoever you want to get service from (thus, making all companies compete)."
