The Show Must Go On

The Issue

We the undersigned hereby demand that the Thames Valley District School Board Trustees restore funding towards the Grand Theatre's high school project.

This is the first time in 20 years that London's two school boards won't be sponsoring the play put on by the Grand Theatre's high school project. The show in question is Prom Queen, based on a true story of an Oshawa teen's fight with the Durham Catholic School Board to bring his boyfriend to prom in 2002. The High School Project is a celebrated program, and with good reason, as it gives students the opportunity to experience what it takes to put on a professional show. This show, in particular, allows those students to play characters their own age and tell a true story of the past that, clearly, still holds relevance.

We support love. We support bringing our community together by using the performing arts and theatre productions like Prom Queen, to show the importance of inclusivity and justice in our schools.

This petition will be forwarded to TVDSB and LDCSB trustees to let them know you are in support.

Big shout out to Rachel Berdan, David Billson and rTraction for starting a community wide online fundraiser that reached its goal in less than 24 hours: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/pages/id/74570/
