If you bought a Medigap Plan G through Via from Cigna or Mutual of Omaha, you may be in for a shock. Those plans had extremely high rates through Via. But low and behold, Via does not even sell those plans anymore. Wonder why?
Via now offers plans from Humana and BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS) that are priced fairly and compete with local agents.
I hate to be a cynic (or maybe not), but Via and TVA have already signed up over 14,000 retirees in the Via plans. The word is out now that you can buy plans from local agents. To be competitive with those local agents, Via has to offer lower cost plans like Humana and BCBS.
Some of you can leave Via's plans for lower cost plans from other insurers. Make sure you do not give up any healthcare credits from TVA and make sure your under age 65 spouses do not lose anything.
Shop around and save some money. If you have Mutual of Omaha Medigap Plan G and you are female, you may be able to save around $100/month. In a couple of years, you can take a cruise (maybe a short one) with your savings!
