Goldfish are commonly mistreated, abused and kept in enclosures that are far from adequate for them to grow and live they full life expectancy. They are shown in TV and Films in bowls which are not acceptable living conditions for any fish, this also continues to provide the public with a false representation of goldfish living standards.

Goldfish are NOT:

Small
Beginner friendly
Short lived
Easy
Cheap
Ok in a bowl

Goldfish NEED:

A large cycled aquarium
A filter
Regular large water changes
A correct diet
A pond - Common goldfish

A popular myth:
'They will grow as large as the tank'...This is completely wrong, in a small space their growth is stunted which leads to an early death. Common goldfish with single tails grow to be around 30cm long! Fancy varieties with double tails can still reach up to 8 inches, no goldfish stays small and they can all live for 20+ years. They deserve a lot more respect in my opinion, they are commonly sold as beginner fish and they are far from it, they are very large and messy.
