Protect Our Kids At Tustin Legacy Update

Protect Our Kids At Tustin Legacy
12 Dec 2018

We wanted to post an update for those of you who aren't in the Facebook group or on Nextdoor. This one you’ll notice though is hopefully positive in nature. Yesterday we met with Barry W Cooper, Allan Bernstein, Matt West, and Jim Palmer at the Armory. The intent was to formulate a go forward plan that aligned with our interests and in turn drops our recall efforts. The following discussion points were formulated:

1. ATEP moves to Armory formally as a recommendation to City Council to approve on 12/18. Not to Warner and Armstrong recommendation wise. The only reason it would go to Warner and Armstrong is if Tustin loses a legal battle if Irvine were to sue.

2. The path to the school will opened ASAP. Matt West will send us the construction schedule that we’ll share. This will happen before any construction occurs on the park and is scheduled to start in January.

3. Permanent location to be secured ASAP off of Tustin Legacy. Most likely this will be in an industrial area given no one will want it next to their community. This will most likely be close to Santa Ana.

4. New Tustin Legacy deals that are controversial will be communicated to us prior to fruition. This isn’t for commercial or residential but for anything at all controversial so that we can have a constructive dialogue to avoid these situations occurring in the future.

5. Jamboree Housing Project next to Greenwood will be brought up and they know at all levels that the community does not want the currently defined project there. We made it absolutely clear. The city is going back to look at alternative options. It can be placed elsewhere in the city. There is an exclusivity portion of the deal but we made it clear we would like it to be rebid for commercial and other purposes.

They also know that we’re not dropping our recall until we see progress and this solidified on 12/18. We did agree to a pause on recall activities until then as a show of good faith.

As long as the city comes through with what was discussed we will also be donating all remaining funds to charities that do good in the Tustin Community. This includes places for children, the homeless and Tustin PD.

Overall it was a positive meeting. We were firm in what we wanted and received little resistance from the group. Hopefully, we’ve reached a new level of understanding. Thank you for your support. Without this community, we wouldn't have achieved our goal.
