PETITION TO THE PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE COMMISSION

We, the undersigned residents, Upper Moreland Swim Club members, staff, Board members, and community supporters, respectfully request that the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission conduct a traffic noise impact study for the area adjacent to the Upper Moreland Swim Club and surrounding residential neighborhoods.

We recognize the importance of the Pennsylvania Turnpike as a major transportation corridor. However, members of the community, including users of the Swim Club and nearby residents, have expressed ongoing concerns regarding traffic noise levels in this area and their impact on the use and enjoyment of outdoor recreational and residential spaces.

In addition to quality-of-life concerns, members and staff have also noted potential safety-related impacts associated with elevated traffic noise, including reduced auditory awareness in outdoor recreational settings and increased difficulty for staff and caregivers to effectively communicate in active environments such as the Swim Club during peak usage periods.

We are requesting a formal evaluation of current conditions, including an assessment of existing noise levels and any current mitigation measures in place. This request is intended to ensure that decisions regarding potential noise mitigation are based on current, objective data.

We are not requesting a predetermined solution. Rather, we respectfully ask that the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission review the findings of a noise impact study and consider whether additional mitigation measures, including but not limited to the extension or installation of sound barriers, may be appropriate.

This petition reflects a community interest in working collaboratively with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, Upper Moreland Township, State Representative Nancy Guenst, and other elected officials to address quality-of-life and safety considerations for residents and community facility users in the affected area.

By signing below, supporters indicate their request for a formal traffic noise impact study in this area.
