Turnpike Declines Noise Study for Upper Moreland

First, thank you to everyone who signed our petition and helped bring attention to the ongoing Turnpike noise affecting Upper Moreland Swim Club and the surrounding community. We hoped that by coming together and making our concerns heard, we could make progress toward a solution.

Unfortunately, we have received a follow-up response from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, and the answer is not what we had hoped for.

The Commission has confirmed that it can only conduct a noise analysis in connection with a qualifying roadway project that significantly changes the roadway’s geometry. Since no such project is currently planned for the stretch of the Turnpike adjacent to the club, the Commission will not conduct a noise study at this time.

We also asked whether an independent noise study could help move things forward. Unfortunately, the Commission stated that even an independently conducted study would not change the outcome without a qualifying roadway project.

Unfortunately, based on the Commission’s response, there is no path forward for noise mitigation under the current circumstances. Despite our efforts to bring attention to the problem and explore possible solutions, the Turnpike has made it clear that it will not reconsider its position without a qualifying roadway project. As things stand, there is nothing further we can do to move this request forward.

While we are disappointed, we are grateful for the hundreds of people who took the time to sign and support this effort. Your voices helped ensure these concerns were formally presented and heard.

Thank you to everyone who signed, shared, and supported this effort. We truly appreciate every signature and every show of support.
