Grup Yorum is a band from Turkey known for their political songwriting. Grup Yorum (Yorum means interpretation or comment in Turkish) has released twenty albums since 1987. Some of the group's concerts and albums were banned over the years, and some of the group members were arrested and also tortured.

The band gave their 25th anniversary concert on 12 June 2010 in İnönü Stadium, home to sports club Beşiktaş J.K.. The concert was attended by 55,000 fans. Starting in 2011, Grup Yorum began an annual series of free concerts entitled Tam Bağımsız Türkiye, the first two of which attracted 150,000 and 250,000 fans respectively.

Since May 16th, they have been conducting a hunger strike, and now a death fast. Two members, Ibrahim Gokcek and Helin Bolek, continue with the following demands:

“We demand that

1)    our members be released and the cases be dropped.

2)    police raids be ended in the İdil Cultural Centre [in Okmeydanı, İstanbul], that was raided for eight times in these last months.

3)    the removal of the wanted ‘terrorist lists’ of the Ministry of Interior upon our members and sympathizers.

4)    the removal of the ban on concerts and open squares to Grup Yorum concerts.

Please sign the petition to show your solidarity with Grup Yorum, and also to tell Erdogan that he cannot silence our songs!

Grup Yorum is the people and can’t be silenced!

Our songs will win!
