Tupelo Regional Airport needs a flight to Dallas - Fort Worth!
The Issue
The community of the Tupelo micropolitan area needs to show a state of agreement on this petition! The Tupelo Regional Airport needs a flight to a place where there is a massive abundance of American Airlines flights and connections due to the interline agreement between American and Contour Airlines (Tupelo's only carrier). The Nashville route just isn't cutting it, it seems to serve more as a leisure route than a route for flying "anywhere in the world." I hope as the creator of this petition that it is viewed by the administrators at the Tupelo Regional Airport or even Contour Airlines.
Here's the proposed data from my personal analysis. (I'm not an airline executive nor do I do this as a profession, it is a hobby and enthusiasm of mine, do not take these following statistics as fact or truth.)
The average load factor from Tupelo to Nashville from what has been seen (displayed on the FAA and Contour Airlines websites) is about 40%-50% daily. Meaning that anywhere from 12-15 people are on each flight. Some days there are full flights but only when there is an event. The goal should be to follow in the leading airport's shoes, such as the Golden Triangle Regional Airport.
For example, the GTR airport has an abundance of marketing and advertisements (billboards, commercials, etc). The Golden Triangle in general also has a very similar population as the Tupelo metro, yet the GTR airport has full flights almost everyday even thought the prices are twice as high as Tupelo. Why aren't we working out?
A. Tupelo does not participate in marketing.
B. No profitable routes in interest to the general public.
The population in Tupelo can't travel through Nashville as there are not sufficient American Airlines connections as there are in Dallas or Charlotte.
Why not fly into Charlotte you ask?
Tupelo is home to one of the largest Toyota Corolla factories in the nation, with a continuous and non-stop flow of travelling workers (mostly from Japan). If Tupelo were to have a route to Charlotte, we would not have access to Asian countries that our workforce desires access to. Dallas - Fort Worth is still considered a central part of the United States, and has sufficient service to European and Asian countries unlike CLT.
I hope that my brainstorm has been insightful and encouraging, as I too care for the economic growth of my hometown. Please sign and help the community of Tupelo grow and connect to the rest of the world appropriately.
