I live close to Grosvenor and Hilbert Park and want to petition the council to provide more lighting in Tunbridge Wells parks at night.

Even in lockdown at night the paths are often haunted by gangs of teenagers which can be very frightening. 

My dog stops getting her evening walks as soon as it gets dark in the winter, I don't feel comfortable or safe walking through the pitch black park with my dog with minimal lighting.

In light of the recent outpouring of women online about the safety issues around walking home at night I believe that it is the responsibility of everyone to make our public spaces safer and that includes Tunbridge Wells. Let's also remember that last year a flasher was reported in G&H park making many in the area feel even more unsafe in the park past dusk. 

I am aware that for the sake of the wildlife the park is home to certain areas cannot be lit, but the current lighting is completely inadequate. 

Lights by the pond on the small path between the flats and the pond is non existent. Lights along the edge of the park bordering the railway are few and far between and the benches there are often packed with teenagers in groups, the spaces inbetween the street lamps is too far. 

The only path well lit is between the Addison road entrance and the park.

I implore you to sign if you are a patron of Grosvenor and Hilbert, or if you are a resident of Tunbridge Wells.

I am hoping that enough traction will help to push the council to reconsider the lighting and safety in many areas of Tunbridge Wells, but starting with this one.
