California SB 339, a new California law effective 1/1/16 now regulates the sales of puppies, kittens and other animals at informal sales locations such as flea markets and swap meets.

By California law, pet owners must protect the health and safety of their pets. The law seeks to expand the responsibility to those buying and selling animals at a swap meet.

The new law bans sales at swap meets and flea markets except when the local jurisdiction, Tulare County in our case, adopts minimal care standards. Animals sold in these venues are often unvaccinated, unaltered and underage. In some cases, they are ill.

A request has been made to the Tulare County Board of Supervisors to review the animal control regulations currently in place. While this is happening, please sign our petition to show your support and let them know the residents of Visalia would like to see this change.
