Truth and Justice for APD Decorated Fugitive Investigator Aubree Clay Horton
The Issue
PETITION TO GEORGIA GOVERNOR BRIAN KEMP: JUSTICE FOR APD INVESTIGATOR AUBREE CLAY HORTON
To: Governor Brian Kemp
Office of the Governor
206 Washington Street, Suite 203, State Capitol
Atlanta, GA 30334
We, the undersigned citizens of Georgia and supporters of law enforcement accountability, urgently petition Governor Brian Kemp to exercise his executive authority to appoint an independent Special Prosecutor and order a thorough investigation into the events leading to the tragic death of Atlanta Police Department Fugitive Investigator of the Year, Aubree Clay Horton, on October 4, 2024.
WHY THIS MATTERS:
Investigator Horton dedicated his life to taking violent criminals off our streets, achieving an unprecedented 97% case closure rate. However, the initial narrative put forward by local authorities—claiming Investigator Horton was a drug-fueled burglar—has been completely dismantled by official scientific and legal reviews:
No Burglary, No Drugs: The Douglas County District Attorney officially stated there is zero evidence Horton was attempting a burglary. Furthermore, official GBI toxicology reports and private autopsies proved there were absolutely no drugs or alcohol in his system.
Unexplained Violence Prior to the Shooting: Autopsy findings revealed nearly 30 blunt-force trauma injuries inflicted upon Horton's body before the shooting occurred.
Uninvestigated Evidence: Critical evidence remains unexamined by local investigators, including an abandoned 911 call placed from Horton's phone hours prior to his death and the highly suspicious discovery of his cell phone in a remote Carroll County pasture.
The Douglas County District Attorney's own review explicitly concluded that the local case file leaves "many questions that are unanswered" regarding the violent circumstances that placed Investigator Horton in distress that morning.
OUR DEMAND:
Because local agencies have refused to investigate the distinct possibility of an ambush, altercation, or targeted retaliation against this highly decorated fugitive investigator, we ask Governor Kemp to step in. We demand the appointment of an independent Special Prosecutor or a mandate for a specialized Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) unit to uncover the truth of who attacked Aubree Clay Horton before his death.
Investigator Horton protected our communities. It is now our duty to protect his legacy and uncover the truth.
