While Donald Trump and Elon Musk slash the budgets of essential government agencies and lay off thousands of federal workers, one budget remains untouched: Trump’s golf fund.  

Less than two months into his term, Trump’s trips to Flordia to play golf have already cost American taxpayers a remarkable $18.2 million. These trips to Mar-a-Lago are not only a waste of taxpayer money but have become a serious inconvenience to the residents and businesses of Palm Beach County, Florida.

From the security details, to the transportation and logistical support, to the disruptions caused by his visits, these costs are astronomical and unjustifiable.

Residents of Palm Beach County are particularly impacted. Road closures, traffic delays, and the constant disruption to daily life have become a weekly burden. Local businesses, schools, and families are suffering from the chaos that these visits cause. The disruptions extend far beyond inconveniences—they have a lasting impact on the economy and quality of life for people who live and work in the area.

Jorge Gonzalez owns SkyWords, a company that tows advertising banners targeting beachgoers in Palm Beach County. "For our banner towing, 97 percent of our business is done on Saturdays and Sundays and on holidays," he told NPR. Every time Trump visits, Jorge comes closer to losing his business. 

The increased security measures surrounding Trump’s trips have also led to numerous flight delays and airspace closures that affect travelers across the region. Commercial airlines and passengers are often forced to endure long waits and last-minute changes, all because of Trump’s selfish need to travel to Mar-A-Lago.

If Trump is so committed to saving taxpayers money, then he should look closely at his own spending. These trips are a clear abuse of taxpayer funds – they serve only one person’s personal enjoyment and do nothing to benefit the public.
