After 20 Years of Trucking and over 3 million miles of accident/incident free driving... I would like to finally have the discussion of why is it illegal for me in my off time to enjoy cannabis safely in the states where it is legalized. After 20 years of driving and sitting for far too long I can honestly say my body is breaking down. The only legal sedative I can use when I'm off is alcohol and I believe that is one of the main reasons for my family falling apart. I didn't know better at the time and I am 99% at fault! However the other 1% is the fault of an archaic system that still holds onto the stigma that if someone smokes a little marijuana that they somehow turn into a zombie drug addict with no sense of self awareness. The truth of the matter is I probably have at least 10 years of quality truck driving left in me due to back pains and knee pains that are just now being to show their signs of deterioration. Truck Drivers deserve to be able decompress at the end of a trucking day with something other than alcohol or prescription pain medications! The news states that 72,000 truckers were taken off the job for failed drug test... Smoking marijuana at home two weeks ago should not result in a loss of job today. It makes absolutely no sense. I'm not sure if my wording is correct but I know my heart is in the right place and I hope to gain the support of even the politicians who know they are living a lie that smoking marijuana in your off time yesterday has any negative impact on your work day today.
