It’s a fact that more then 80% of Truck/Car crashes are the fault of the car driver, not the trucker.

Therefore, Autonomous trucks would do nothing to increase safety on the roads, in fact, as any experienced trucker knows, autonomous trucks would be dangerous when operated by a minimum wage desk jockey, from a remote location, a desk jockey who is not even required to hold a commercial drivers license.

Autonomous trucks will greatly reduce the cost of freight transportation for sure, but if you think the savings will be passed onto the consumer, you are mistaken.
Look what happened when ATM’s replaced bank tellers. The bank saves money by not employing a teller AND the bank charges the consumer a transaction fee. Who wins? The bank.
How about self checkout at the grocery store ?
Did you save any money by using a self check out lately? 
Of course you didn’t.

Costs don’t come down, the additional profit that’s raised by replacing truck drivers with automation goes to line the pockets of the corporate fat cats!  Hence the race to get the driverless trucks on the road.

There are currently 3.5 million commercial truck drivers in the United States, that’s a pretty big unemployment line.
