The Issue

During this global pandemic (COVID-19) students, and everyone for that matter, are experiencing extreme financial difficulties. Troy University announced 6 days before Fall Semester classes start that they are charging $50 more per credit hour for students who are taking online classes this semester.

This is extremely unfair. There are people with autoimmune diseases and other ailments that make them more susceptible to catching COVID-19, and they may opt to take classes online during this time. Troy University is using this pandemic as a way to make an extra profit off of those who do not want to be exposed to this virus by attending in-class sessions.

They claim that this fee is due to the “rising technology costs associated with delivering online learning”. Troy University is supposed to be a leading University in the United States in regards to online learning, and the costs of technology in correlation with online learning is not rising.

Additionally, the University should be helping those having financial difficulties, but this is doing the very opposite. Let’s please communicate to them that this is not okay and college is already extremely expensive to begin with!
