WE ARE NOT JUST PETITIONING FOR BLACK PANTS! THIS IS ABOUT REFORMING THE DRESS CODE ALL TOGETHER!

For years, Troy City Schools has created a strict dress code that has limited options for both parents and students. With the current announcement of black pants no longer being allowed at CHHS, finding appropriate clothes will be even more of a challenge. Parents and students, it is time to express our concerns regarding the dress code. Many CHHS parents and students have already bought black pants, only to be faced with the new change to the dress code two weeks before school starts. In addition to this, this dress code does not keep up with modern clothing. It is nearly impossible to find shorts of an appropriate length in a department store or a Walmart. Also finding shirts that are one solid color is a challenging feat. Some may say that this dress code was created to bridge the gap between students in lower socioeconomic statuses and higher socioeconomic statuses. Despite that, no matter what a student wears, socioeconomic status can still be determined from clothing. This dress code has limited the expression of students in various ways. A new, reformed dress code for students would be individuality, more freedom of expression, and easier outfit planning and purchasing. Troy City Schools, it is finally time to consider the voices of these many students and parents that stand in opposition to the current dress code.
