Trip notifications for Rideshare Drivers
Trip notifications for Rideshare Drivers
As a driver for Uber and/or Lyft, you may end up getting a trip that is longer than 10-15 minutes, or a rider that has a lot of luggage. Although absolutely nothing is wrong with either of these situations, sometimes as a driver, we may not feel comfortable taking these trips. So this petition is to urge both Uber and Lyft to request if there will be more than 1 bag or parcel of luggage, and to notify the driver of the length of the drive as well as space needed in order to fit the luggage properly. Often times, last fare of the night, we end up having to take a fare that could go on for hours, and we just need to go home, but do not want to effect out cancellation rating. This should all be taken into account for longer trips.
It is a very common understanding that (at least) Uber drivers do know where a person is going prior to picking them up. This is true on one of two occasions:
1: If the driver is in Gold status. This requires them to get and keep a 4.85 Star rating, 85% acceptance rate, as well as a 4% cancellation rating. Since for most drivers, this is only a part time job, or even a hobby, it is very difficult to keep this up and maintained. And for Uber, it resets every 3 months.
2: If the rider scheduled well enough in advance, Uber and Lyft have a list of pick ups and destinations throughout the day and night in hopes to entice a driver to work at an odd hour.
This does not help those who cannot keep their rating, or cannot work at those hours.
What can we do to prevent this? Before this petition is completed, as well as if it is not taken seriously, we can message our drivers and let them know if the trip will be a longer trip. Please give them the option to reply if they can take you or if they can’t.
If they can’t, cancel the request, if possible and re-request it after a couple minutes. It will give them time to get some distance giving another available and more able driver the chance.
As drivers, we do appreciate riders from the bottom of our hearts! But we are also concerned for safety.
