COVID-19: Bring back telemedicine for ABA providers for Tricare Beneficiaries
The Issue
Due to the unknown circumstances surrounding COVID-19, the closures of schools, clinical centers, and direct instructions from the White House; we are asking that Healthnet Federal Services, Tricare, Humana, the DHA, and the Autism Care Demonstration allow for telemedicine for Applied Behavior Analysis therapy. Significant research has proven that the telemedicine model can be an effective model for those receiving ABA therapy services and those implementing them. This would lead to less exposure to COVID-19 as most BCBA's and RBT's would have to travel between multiple clients in a day, being exposed to a number of parents, siblings, staff, and children that they work with on a daily basis and therefore exposing others when traveling between client home's and job sites. By allowing for services to be delivered via Telehealth, this would allow for service providers to avoid being stuck between continuing with critical services and practicing proper social distancing. In addition, if it came to the point where ABA providers were no longer allowed to travel/work as an Essential Business, we would be left with NO way to support the individuals that we love to serve and their families.
