As the 2024 senior class at Tri-City Christian Schools, we are deeply disappointed with the recent changes to our graduation venue and baccalaureate scheduling. The new location for the class of 2024's graduation on May 23, 2024, at 6:30 pm, will be in the school's worship center. This change will not accommodate all of the senior families, which is a very significant concern for us. We believe that these changes were made due to alleged "violations" and an attempt to not damage the new field. However, we feel that these reasons overlook the importance of tradition and inclusivity.

The brand new Stan Bickley Field was installed for use in August of 2023 and has been used for multiple events with larger capacities and more foot traffic than graduation. For example; The fall festival, which hosted many families and students was held in the parking lot and on the field. Football and Soccer games have also taken part on this field. Students partook in the homecoming court celebration back in October on this field. Twice a week, over a hundred students partake in their block 8 workouts on this field. As well as, during lunch time multiple kids spend their break running and playing vigorous games.

The baccalaureate was changed from an evening 2-3 hour long ceremony into a 1-hour ceremony, middle of the day, during the school's normal chapel time. The ceremony will now include middle school and the rest of high school. Who have already expressed their lack of desire and quoted they "will not be paying attention". Some have even called it a "waste of time" and have prior plans of messing around and distracting others. Ultimately taking away from the entire meaning of the ceremony. The baccalaureate is meant to be a sentimental ceremony to honor the senior class, not to be rushed, interrupted, or shoved into one hour.

The new schedule of the baccalaureate will also require parents and families to take time off work during the day. This change is inconvenient for working parents and other family members who would have been able to attend if it was held in the evening, as in the past years. We believe this decision does not consider everyone's circumstances.

We understand that preserving school property is a priority but we believe there are alternative solutions that can satisfy both parties' concerns without compromising on such a significant event in our lives.

We request, the Tri-City Christian Schools administration to reconsider their decisions about the graduation venue and the baccalaureate scheduling. Let's uphold these traditions while ensuring everyone has an opportunity to celebrate this rewarding milestone comfortably and to its unabridged potential.

Please sign this petition if you support changing the graduation location to Stan Bickley Field and the rescheduling of the baccalaureate at Tri-City Christian Schools.
