Justice for Mighty the Llama

Justice for Mighty the Llama
The Issue
On January 28, 2015, a scene of senseless, horrifying brutality unfolded on an alpaca and llama farm in Monroe, North Carolina. Mighty, a 10 year-old llama, had been tortured, murdered, and mutilated in an unconscionable act of heinous cruelty. After being stabbed repeatedly, Mighty was cut in two, with one half of her body being found thrown into a pond on the farm and the other half being found on a nearby dirt path. Her owners followed a trail of her blood and hair, which led to the house of one of the men who has been charged with the crime.
Three men, James Robert Lee (18), Alexander Samuel Clark (20), and Cody Wyatt Bray (22) have been arrested and charged with this sickeningly sadistic crime. The charges include felony breaking & entering, felony larceny, second-degree trespassing, and cruelty to animals. We commend the Union County District Attorney and the Sheriff's Dept. for their diligence in investigating this crime and for filing serious criminal charges, and we are asking that these men be prosecuted and punished to the fullest extent of the law. Aside from being a horrendous crime in and of itself, the incredibly sadistic manner in which Mighty was tortured and murdered and the pure senselessness of it clearly demonstrates that the perpetrators are very violent, dangerous individuals who pose a considerable threat to the community.
Mighty lived up to her name. She died protecting her herdmates, her owner states, who have been very affected by her untimely death. Mighty and the farm's other llamas aren't only alpaca guardians, though. They touch the lives of local autistic and elderly individuals in their capacity as therapy llamas, a job for which their gentle, easy-going nature makes them particularly well-suited. It is heartbreaking and appalling beyond words that anyone could so cruelly torture, murder, and mutilate such a beautiful, docile creature.
Please sign and share this petition far and wide to help us ensure that those guilty of this heinous crime face the harshest possible punishment.
