The suicide rate in Fermanagh is too high and people need somewhere local to go for help or to bring a family member for help. Suicide has a big impact on families, friends, neighbourhoods and work colleagues. I know the effect as a family member committed suicide over 20 years ago and it still effects me today.Depression is the thief in the night it robs people of their loved ones ability to interact with family. There is nothing more painful for families than watching the light go out behind a loved ones eyes, to watch them deteriorate and struggle and the biggest pain of all is if they lose the battle and commit suicide. A mother grieving the loss of a child, a child grieving the loss of a parent, a sibling losing a sibling or the loss of a best friend. It is time for action for the people of Fermanagh as the County needs real support by the people for the people for our vunerable adults struggling daily to do every day functions. We need support before it gets to crisis point, a 5 minute GP assessment is not enough nor is hours sitting in A & E the waiting list for counselling is too long and sometimes too late, often people struggle most during the night time hours --- thats when they need help.
