Tray's Law

The Issue

My sister sadly passed away from Alcoholism. She apparently was not entitled to any care what so ever, because she still had full mental capacity, although all her organs were slowly and painfully shutting down. 6 months before she died she became bed bound. And still no help to help her bathe, eat and most importantly take her much needed medicine after a recent heart attack with heart medication being on top of the list. I would like to see a change in the law that when an individual becomes bed bound , this should be the time to act fast, putting care in place without the individuals consent. Full mental capacity is not enough to refuse care for someone who can not move out of their bed, laying in there own excrement and urine, not being fed and not taking medication due to not having the right mind to know what they are doing, being at risk of not taking the medication at all, or overdosing not knowing how many pills they have taken . Yes alcohol was still available to her. With her being able to order online from her bed. And also individuals around her that would purchase the alcohol for her. Please may we have a change in law. That assessments be carried out professionally when there is an a acoholic that becomes bed bound and are unable to care for themselves properly and that an intervention is put into place immediately. Without the suffering patient's consent or any consent from Next of Kin . The desicion to intervene should come only from the professional carrying out the assessment..for one, the patient's own health and safety and two so they can die with dignity and comfort. My sister was entitled to Palliative care. But because she still had mental capacity, that was fading gradually with dementia like symptoms, she never received this. Please let's not let this happen to another sufferer that desperately needs someone to help them in their last dying months . Alcoholics have a stigma attached to them that it's their own fault and should have more control . No, it's the same as drugs and it's an addiction and an illness that kills. Please help those that can't help themselves. It would mean so much to us as a Family to be able to help just one person with a new law of intervention. Please help us by signing this petition and getting support for those who need it. Thank you .
