Allow Pets on Sydney Public Transport during 'off peak'

Sydney transport currently has a blanket ban on all pets on buses and trains.
At 62%, Australia continues to have one of the highest household rates of pet ownership in the world (Australia Veterinary Association, 2016).
This is something we should be proud of; pets are proven to benefit us both physically and psychologically. They lower rates of mental illness; facilitate the emotional development of children; increase cardiovascular health, which in turn means fewer visits to the doctor, and a generally more healthy person (RSPCA, 2015).
Despite our national love for our furry friends, the NSW government has yet to reflect this in its accessibility of public transport to pet owners. In our increasingly conscientious and congested city, getting cars off the roads, and more people using our public transport system should be a priority, and yet, aside from Assistance Animals, no pets of any kind are allowed onto our buses, trains and ferries.
Make the NSW Government aware of the need for a safe and well regulated system for pets on public transport, to replace the current BLANKET BAN.
