The railway between Walsall and Dudley is set to become a metro line but no interest in reopening the Walsall-Lichfield section of the line as either a metro or rail anytime soon. We need this line and route more than ever as these benefit the towns of Walsall, Wednesbury, Tipton, Dudley, Merry Hill shopping centre, Brierley Hill and Stourbridge as well as Pelsall, Brownhills, Burntwood and Lichfield by giving a new connectivity from Staffordshire to Worcestershire via the West Midlands County.

The line is intact with rails down at the Brownhills-Lichfield end and from Bescot Junction to Round Oak which are to be lifted to lay the metro tram tracks. This route would give more areas connections and ease congestion at Birmingham New Street and could link more areas like Cannock Chase to South Staffordshire, provide a new link from Wolverhampton to Lichfield via Walsall and possibly a through Derby to Worcester service via Lichfield, Walsall, Dudley and Stourbridge.

These potential links could also make the case to reopen the Sutton Park Line for services to Leicester, Nuneaton, Coleshill and more destinations in England. This line would be a main through connection allowing travellers to avoid Birmingham and bring freight traffic which would ease goods on the roads.

The line would be very beneficial and would take traffic off the roads which cause daily congestion. It would also relink Dudley to the National Rail Network and give the Black Country more through services and potential diversionary routes to places mentioned before as well as Shropshire and Staffordshire.
