Lower the 16-17 year old oyster card fares to those of an 11-15 year old.
The Issue
All 16-17 year olds will have noticed that when you transition from a 11-15 year old oyster card to the 16-17 version your fares increase. For some this may not be by much, for others this amount is substantial.
It is unfair that we (16-17 year olds) are being charged more for our tube travel when nothing has changed in terms of education for most of us. Many of us are still in full-time education, not working, not with a salary yet but we have increased fares to pay, which are not cheap.
Every month I pay £56 for my oyster fares, whereas with a child oyster I would have paid £34 a month.
Even those of our age who are not in full-time education will suffer, they too have increased fares. I believe it is unfair to charge us more just because we are a year older, many of us cannot afford it and after all we are not technically adults until we are 18, so why shouldn't we have the same fare as a child?
We would like the General London Assembly's board for transport to seriously consider lowering the fares for sixteen to seventeen year olds to those of eleven to fifteen year olds' as most are in a similar financial position.
