Transparency and Accountability from CCHS Administration

The Issue

As parents committed to the mission and values of Catholic education, we are raising concerns about recent changes at Charlotte Catholic High School, particularly regarding the transition from Cognia to Lumen for accreditation. Our vocation as parents is to make informed decisions that serve the best interests of our children, and we chose a Catholic school with the expectation of transparency and collaboration in matters that impact their education.

1    Accreditation and College Preparatory Standards:                                                            As stewards of our children’s formation, we seek assurance that Charlotte Catholic will maintain its college preparatory status. We respectfully request explicit confirmation that a second regional accreditation will be administered in addition to Lumen, since Lumen is not held in the same regard as SACS. Dual accreditation ensures our children’s education makes them competitive applicants to colleges and universities, increasing their academic and professional opportunities.

2    Ancient World History Curriculum:             The study of Ancient World History is critical in developing well-rounded, reflective, and informed students. This subject offers students a foundation for understanding God’s work through human civilizations. We urge the school to preserve this vital part of the curriculum and provide clarity on its future.

3    Staff Continuity and Stability:                     The mid-year departure of teachers and counselors has caused disruption and instability, creating challenges for students, particularly as they strive for academic excellence. We believe this issue needs to be addressed with transparency, ensuring the community understands the reasons behind these departures and the measures in place to prevent future disruptions. Stability within the faculty is a cornerstone of trust in Catholic education, reflecting the commitment to care for the whole child.

As parents, we are deeply invested in the spiritual, academic, and personal development of our children. Transparency and open communication are essential in fostering the partnership between school and family—a relationship integral to Catholic education. Changes are inevitable in an evolving institution, but we expect these changes to be handled in a way that upholds the values of trust, collaboration, and accountability.

We look forward to your response and to working together to ensure Charlotte Catholic continues to exemplify the excellence and Catholicity that attracted us to this community.
