Respected city Councils of Vancouver, when you all sat together and set the rules and laws against feeding harmless birds in park areas, which many seniors and some young people including children enjoyed doing. But allowed drinking alcohol and consuming drugs in parks.
We no longer see people feeding birds in parks but what we regularly see is the used needles in the areas where most of the dogs are unleashed. But apparently this is completely fine but banning the bird feeding was on the top list and most important thing to do for our city councils but they will ignore the real danger.
As a tax payer I don’t have freedom of doing what i enjoy because of the nonsense laws but those who take our tax money has more rights to do what they want, even if it’s the most harmful thing to do, and put rest of us at risk of getting exposed to some diseases.
It’s time to lift such a nonsense law against feeding birds, specially pigeons have always relied on human help and feedings, they are not wild birds but domestic birds, just like stray dogs and cats in other countries need help and attention, they don’t want to eat from garbage they need love and care, pigeons are the same. They are seed eaters, they get the nutrition they need from seeds not human junk or left overs. Feeding them seeds and clean water can avoid diseases such as PMV which is very contagious disease amongst birds but it’s not transmitted to humans.
Why should anyone feel like a criminal for feeding birds? While doing drugs openly is completely fine and acceptable. Because of rules city and spca puts against feeding harmless birds, many who try to help the city’s birds by providing seeds, get yelled at on daily bases, they get publicly humiliated, threatened, stalked, abused, attacked just for feeding birds. Is it still not time to lift such bans?
