The Issue

The old Crossroads Mall property at 72nd and Dodge streets in Omaha, NE, has long been a vacant and under-utilized eye-sore. It presents a unique opportunity to transform this space into a vibrant city park that would serve as a green oasis for all residents.

While it has been proposed that this location be used for retail, shopping or apartments, this area doesn’t need another strip mall. Should the latest development proposal fall through, we’d like the city to consider turning it into a city park. A park, similar to what was recently put in downtown, would be a beautiful attraction that all residents can enjoy.

City parks beautify our city, enhance the community, and are beneficial to the environment. As the center of our city and located near the new public library, the Crossroads area is the perfect location for a new public park.

A city park would create vital green space, offering a place for relaxation, recreation, and community events. Parks have been shown to increase property values in surrounding areas and attract tourism. Moreover, they provide environmental benefits by improving air quality, offering shade that reduces urban heat, and supporting local biodiversity. Investing in this city park could also spur further economic development and rejuvenation of the area, benefiting local businesses and bringing new opportunities to our city.

Imagine a place where families can have picnics, children can play freely, and individuals can find a sanctuary within the city. With a thoughtfully designed park, this can become a reality.

Join me in calling upon local officials to take action and help turn our vision into reality. Sign this petition to show your support for transforming the old Crossroads mall property into a new city park for everyone to enjoy.
