Transform the MBTA Silver Line from Bus Rapid Transit to Light Rail

The Issue

I am not a Boston resident, but I have always been puzzled by the fact that the MBTA Silver Line operates as a bus rapid transit line rather than a light rail line. This is especially perplexing considering it partially runs underground and all of MBTA's trackless trolleys have been retired. It is my firm belief that this should be converted into a light rail line.

Light rail offers several advantages over bus rapid transit, one of which includes being a cost-effective solution on high-volume corridors with higher capacity than buses. This change could significantly improve public transportation in Boston, making it more efficient and sustainable.

In addition to these practical benefits, converting the Silver Line to light rail would also align with global trends towards more sustainable urban transport systems. According to data from the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), light rail has seen consistent growth in ridership across US cities over recent years.

It's time for Boston to join this trend and make its public transportation system even better for its residents and visitors alike. Please sign this petition urging authorities to convert the MBTA Silver Line from Bus Rapid Transit to Light Rail.
