Transform Sea View Street into a Pedestrian Zone for a Safer Cleethorpes
The Issue
Cleethorpes is home to a many independent bars, restaurants, and retail businesses. Many of which are located along Sea View Street a single, narrow and increasingly congested street.
Local pedestrians often struggle to traverse the area safely due to heavy vehicular traffic, cars overhanging on the curbs due to narrow parking spaces, thus negatively impacting their quality of life and ability to support local businesses.
The vision would be to replicate the atmosphere and safe social environment of Abbey Gate in our neighbouring town Grimsby. Where all businesses can flourish from the footfall created by a pedestrianised zone.
Cleethorpes is equally a tourist destination and seaside town, enabling more seated outdoor dining experiences for locals and tourists alike to enjoy and make this town even more appealing.
Regarding emergency access, a bollard system could be a solution but in terms of public traffic the closure of Sea View Street would be of minimal inconvenience as traffic can easily navigate the area using Knoll Street, Cambridge Street and Humber Street.
Sea View Street currently houses 8 parking extremely narrow spaces that benefit from 1 hour free parking/ but often reported that many vehicles have been clipped due to the tight road and damage to wing mirrors a continuous issue.
Wardell Street, Cambridge Street, Knoll Street and the bottom of Sea View Street in front of the "Tale of Two" all have parking spaces benefitting from the one hour free period. With the addition of Wardell Street Car Park enabling visitors to park for longer paid durations.
The removal of the 8 parking spaces wouldn't be detrimental.
Our town of Cleethorpes deserves the same improvement. Let's recreate our streets and make them safer, healthier, and more enjoyable places to spend time in. Please join us in petitioning the local government to transform this busy commercial road into a pedestrian zone. Every signature counts!
