I'm a resident of the beautiful country of Malta, yearning for a brighter, healthier future not only for myself but for the generations to come. Our country is incredibly diverse, boasting an array of charming, picturesque views that we should be able to appreciate with fresh, clean air and the harmony of nature. However, the current state of our cities, bustling with cars and stamped with over-population and excessive construction, poses a threat to this dream.

My vision of our nation is one blooming with trees and plants, where efficient public transport significantly reduces the number of cars on the road, and open spaces and car-free piazzas become the norm. We can invest in reservoirs for water conservation to ensure sustainability and preserve our resources for future generations. Over-population and construction are not the sole means by which an economy can flourish. There is vast potential within the environment sector too.

Green spaces and better urban planning hold the promise of not only an enhanced quality of life but also a stronger economy. According to a study by the United Nations, green spaces can boost local economies by attracting tourists and improving residents' health, leading to lower healthcare costs (United Nations, 2019). They can also provide shade and contribute to lower levels of pollution, giving citizens fresher air to breathe and fostering a healthier environment.
