Transform Goldblatt Elementary School into a Multi-purpose Community Hub

The Issue

I have lived in the urban community all my life, raising four children in this challenging environment. My experiences have given me deep insight into our community's needs and deficits. With this perspective, and a keen eye on the many strengths we draw on every day, I am committed to improving the welfare of our residents. From unemployment to educational deficits and social isolation - there are many challenges that we face. I am convinced that performance arts can be a powerful tool in dealing with these challenges. Therefore, I am urging CPS Goldblatt Elementary School in Chicago, Illinois, to evolve into a Performance Arts Center, Theatre, Community Center, Event Space and Temporary Emergency Shelter for Youth.

Communities thrive with the availability of safe spaces to gather, learn, create and help one another. By turning Goldblatt Elementary School into a Performance Arts Center, Theatre, Community Center, Temporary Emergency Shelter, Event Space, and Child Care center, we can create an enriching environment that nurtures talent, provides needed services and boosts community spirit. The National Guild for Community Arts Education reports that community-based arts programs have been shown to contribute to the reduction of “juvenile delinquency and truancy” and to the increase of “graduation rates and academic achievement" among students (Source: National Guild for Community Arts Education).

Let's tackle our challenges and turn them into opportunities for growth. By signing this petition, you are adding your voice to the initiative that seeks to empower our community through the transformative power of the arts. Sign now and make a difference.
