The Issue

Years have gone by, and every time I pass by the old Wyandot Swim Club, I feel a pang of disappointment. Once a bustling community hub, it's now a shadow of its former self – decaying, abandoned, and forgotten. This once prominent institution could once again serve our community in a very different but equally important way.

Imagine reviving this space as a state-of-the-art skate park, catering to both adults and youth. Such a transformation wouldn't just be a boon to skateboarders, BMX riders, and scooter enthusiasts; it would inject new life into our neighborhood, fostering community ties and encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle.

Cities across the country have transformed underutilized spaces into skate parks and seen significant social, economic, and health benefits. For example, the Mike Fox Skate Park in Santa Cruz, California, not only reduced vandalism but also attracted tourism and supported local businesses.

We have an opportunity to replicate these successes right here in our community. Turning the neglected Wyandot Swim Club into a skate park can deter crime by providing a safe, engaging space for young people to gather and express themselves. Moreover, this redevelopment can help in rejuvenating local area aesthetics and property values.

We are calling upon local government officials and community leaders to recognize the potential that exists within the confines of the Wyandot Swim Club. Together, we can plan and implement a project that revitalizes our community, stimulates local economy, and provides a vibrant gathering place for individuals of all ages.

Please lend your support to our cause. By signing this petition, you are advocating for positive change and showing your commitment to reinvigorating a space that holds historical value to our community. Let’s transform an eyesore into a hub of activity, creativity, and camaraderie. Sign the petition now and help us make this vision a reality.
