Transfer Greenwich and Woolwich Foot Tunnels management to Transport for London (TfL). These Foot Tunnels are a crucial part of London's infrastructure, yet they suffer from neglect and poor maintenance.

Responsibility for these vital arteries lie with Greenwich Council, which has shown time and again that it does not have the resources or capacity to maintain the tunnels and their facilities. TfL with its extensive experience and resources in managing public transport infrastructure, is uniquely positioned to take over the operation and maintenance of the Foot Tunnels.

Every day, more than 4,000 people use the Greenwich and Woolwich Foot Tunnels as a vital link between the London Boroughs of Greenwich, Tower Hamlets and Newham. Thousands of commuters, locals, and visitors, experience frustration and inconvenience caused by outdated and often broken-down lifts. 

This is not a minor inconvenience but a significant hardship for the elderly, people with disabilities, those with young children or heavy loads plus commuters who cycle to work. 

By transferring management to TfL, we can ensure that the lifts are not only renewed but also properly maintained, enabling all users to move through the tunnel smoothly and efficiently and for free!

As a matter of urgency, we urge the London Assembly and the Mayor of London to facilitate this transfer of management. Improving access and ensuring reliable transport links are in the best interests of all Londoners and our visitors.
