Dr. Reena Kapoor, who is auditing the DOC as part of the agreement, wrote in her March progress report that the agency has not “demonstrat(ed)  substantial compliance with all provisions” yet and therefore won’t meet a December 2026 deadline currently in place.  

Recently, MADOC had a spike in suicides (6)  and  one attempted suicide caused by MADOC negligence.  Clearly, BSH does not belong in the hands of the MADOC. This  population desperately requires mental health experts to takeover, the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health.

The Massachusetts Disability Law Center has warned for years that MADOC clinical executives constantly fail patients suffering from SMI.   We describe the MADOC clincal executive leadership as disorganized and unqualified to lead a psychiatric hospital.

 Massachusetts Senate  recently passed an addendum to  Bill S1386 that could be the key to open up the opportunity to transfer  Bridgewater State Hospital to the  Massachusetts Department of Mental Health, the mental health experts.
